LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER
Dear friends and colleagues,
At the dawn of the 21st century, we are facing a period of unprecedented risk for the very survival of our species: a redistribution of wealth and soaring food prices have left many struggling with poverty and famine; extreme weather phenomena continue to impact negatively on agriculture and housing; population explosions to levels of 7 billion plus, compared to 2 billion in 1930, have caused the depletion of food supplies and natural resources, making biotechnology increasingly necessary to meet the nutritional demands of the world's population; ailing and contaminated ecosystems, following decades of abuse, have compromised the health of plant and animal species, to say nothing of super viruses and major pandemics.
That is why, as Anthropologists, it is important not only to dispute our natural history and origins, but also to keep the debate alive regarding our present and future prospects as well. For this reason, the International Institute for Humankind Studies (IIHS), through its international seminars and publishing activities, attempts to communicate across ideological and scientific domains, embracing minds from all cultures and creeds, to raise the general levels of awareness about the historical, natural, environmental and social forces that have determined our evolution thus far, in the hope of re-directing Man's efforts towards the formulation and implementation of more equitable and ethical social and economic policies, with the common interest at heart.
Therefore, if you would like to support our activities, or get involved in any of our projects, please click on the appropriate heading in the left hand margin. Our future, after all, will be largely determined by ourselves.
